The Nadis (Energy Channels) and Chakras

The human subtle system is a vastly intricate one, made up of thousands of channels which carry energy throughout the body. The concentrations of the energy in the subtle system are called Chakras (‘wheels’ in Sanskrit), or energy centers.

The entire system is governed by three primary vertical channels of energy called ‘Nadis’ in Sanskrit and by seven main chakras. Through the Self Realization process, our subtle system is fully activated with the awakening of the Kundalini, which cleans and balances the entire system and enlightens the pure qualities of the chakras within us

THE IDA NADI (LEFT CHANNEL OR MOON CHANNEL)

The left channel relates to emotions, desires, and your connection with the past. And so, whenever you desire something or use your emotions, your attention moves to the left channel. Your left energy channel begins at the 1st chakra (Mooladhara) and travels up the left side of your body, terminating on the right side of your brain. In our subtle system, this part of your brain is the superego. This is where our memories, habits, and conditionings reside. Everything that influences us – things your parents and friends taught you, your identification with your race, ethnicity, or nationality and its associated culture – is stored in your superego.

QUALITIES OF THE LEFT CHANNEL

The essential quality of the left energy channel is joy. Remember when you were a young child and you’d wake up happy every morning? The joy carried by the left energy channel feels just like that. As adults, we long for that feeling. This joy still lives within us and can be awakened through meditation.

BALANCE WITHIN LEFT CHANNEL

In its pure state, the left energy channel brings about emotional balance and helps us express the qualities of deep joy, pure love and compassion.

If your left energy channel is in distress, you may experience emotional extremes. It shows up as depression, lethargy, sadness, low self-esteem or guilt.

To return your left channel into a balanced state, all you need is meditation. With Sahaja Yoga meditation techniques, you can easily renew your state of joy and emotional balance within

THE PINGALA NADI (RIGHT CHANNEL OR SUN CHANNEL)

The right channel is the channel of activity ( both mental and physical) and the future. When you act on your desires, your attention moves to the right channel.Your right energy channel begins at the 2nd chakra (Swadisthan) and travels up the right side of your body, terminating on the left side of your brain. This area of the brain in our subtle system is the ego, which gives you a sense of individualism. Things that you affect through your actions – for yourself or others – are a product of your attention on the right side.

QUALITIES OF THE RIGHT CHANNEL

Action and planning are the fundamental qualities of the right energy channel. When you are physically active and dynamic, it is the right channel which supplies the energy for it. When you focus, plan or analyze things in your mind, it also fuels your mental activity.

BALANCE WITHIN RIGHT CHANNEL

In its pure state, the right channel brings about dynamism and helps us act effectively with a still mind and in a joyful manner. When we make excessive demands of energy from the right side, it makes the left side weak. As a result, our emotional side takes a back seat and the sense of joy evaporates. We become grouchy, irritable and even aggressive. Not very pleasant to be around. Fortunately, awareness is the first step to correcting imbalance. You can meditate and utilize Sahaja Yoga meditation techniques to easily renew your state of calm and

THE SUSHUMNA NADI

The central channel is the channel of balance and spiritual evolution. It is also called the middle path. Your central energy channel travels from the sacrum bone at the base of your spine straight up your spine towards the final chakra (Sahasrara).

QUALITIES OF THE CENTRAL CHANNEL

Spiritual evolution and integration with the collective consciousness is the essential quality of the central channel. When we no longer seek material well-being and wish to find a more innate sense of contentment and purpose, it is through the qualities of the central channel that we can find what we are searching for. Your Kundalini rises through this central channel at the time of Self-Realization.

BALANCE WITHIN CENTRAL CHANNEL

Your central channel is the path to the Sahasrara chakra. With Self-Realization , your Kundalini energy uses this central channel to reach the Sahasrara chakra. It nourishes and strengthens it as it flows through it. As we meditate in thoughtless awareness, the attention gradually stops swinging from the left channel to the right channel, from the past to the future and settles into the central channel. Our attention is then able to remain centered. We exist in the present moment and experience true inner peace and joy.

Your key to developing a strong central channel is regular meditation in thoughtless awareness.

Millions and millions of tiny vital life forces whirling through the body are concentrated into centres called chakras. Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit. They are called wheels because energies spin at these points, rotating clockwise at a certain frequency. The activity resembles a galaxy of planets, each spinning on its axis. The seven main chakras that you will learn about are located in the spinal cord region and are reflected, and felt after Self-Realization, in various parts of our bodies. Each chakra is designed to supervise and maintain the perfect operation of the bodily systems under its control.

An understanding of what each chakra attracts and what can disturb it is important for our well-being. Every thought and action influence the sensitivity and performance of these centers. As a beginner, the initial task is to clear away the gross negativity; this may take time but the results will be felt from the outset. The source of all this information is available to you once you experience Self-Realization and your chakras are gradually cleared.

Chakra’s

1. Mooladhara: The first chakra is situated below the sacrum bone in which resides the Kundalini, and its main aspect is the innocence. Innocence is the quality by which we experience pure, childlike joy, without the limitations of prejudice or conditionings. Innocence gives us dignity, balance, and a tremendous sense of direction and purpose in life. It is nothing but simplicity, purity and joy

Physical manifestation: reproductive and excretory systems, sexual organs.

2. Swadhisthan: The second chakra is the chakra of creativity, pure attention and pure knowledge. It is the one which connects us to the inner source of inspiration, and enables us to experience the beauty around us.

Physical manifestation: stomach, intestines, the lower
part of liver, gallbladder, spleen

3. Nabhi: The third chakra is the one that gives us the sense of generosity, complete satisfaction and contentment. On the left side, the main quality of this center is peace – clearing this chakra can relieve stress and tensions. On the right side, it looks after our liver which is the organ of our attention and power of concentration.

Physical manifestation: stomach, intestines, upper part of liver,
gallbladder, spleen.

Void: The Void represents the ocean of unenlightened awareness within an individual’s knowledge, the gap in the central channel. It is filled with true knowledge as you receive your Kundalini awakening. The qualities of the Void include balance, righteousness, a sense of personal dignity, self-discipline, decisiveness, patience, thirst for truth and knowledge. Ultimately, the Void is associated with the principle of the guru: your own ability to guide yourself and others in spiritual evolution.
The Void, along with your Nabhi and Swadisthan chakras, represent an integrated group. Together, they dictate the course of your evolution from your creation to your ultimate awareness of spirituality and your journey to Self-Realization.

Physical manifestation: along with the Nabhi and Swadisthan,
regulates abdominal organs and digestive system

4. Anahata: The fourth chakra, the chakra of the heart, is the place where resides our Spirit, our true Self, which is eternally pure and unaffected by anything, like a shining diamond hidden within us which witnesses all our actions.

Physical manifestation: breathing, heart organ, lungs, breasts,
thymus gland, located behind the top of the breastbone.

5. Vishuddhi: The fifth chakra is the chakra of diplomacy, of pure relationships with others, and of playful detachment. It removes all our guilts and remorses when it is opened by the Kundalini, and gives us a kind and compassionate voice.

Physical manifestation: neck, arms, mouth, tongue, teeth, nose, face.

6. Agnya: The sixth chakra is the chakra of forgiveness and compassion. Forgiveness is the power to let go of anger, hatred and resentment and to discover, in humility, the nobility and generosity of the Spirit

Physical manifestation: sight, hearing, thought process, pituitary gland, pineal gland.

7. Sahasrara: The seventh center integrates all the chakras with their respective qualities. It is the last milestone of the evolution of human awareness. This chakra gives us the direct, absolute perception of Reality on our central nervous system.

Physical manifestation: brain.
